What the hell happened to January?

by Chris on February 2nd, 2007

You know I have been slack when the normally dormant glitter gloss blog has had two posts and I have done none :-)

Hits Rewind

The new year has been good so far. I enjoyed my time back in Tas. I was meant to be home until the 19th but my trip was cut short. I flew out on the 15th and was pretty lucky with all my flights. I am happy to say my new sleeping drugs worked a treat :-) The big flight left out of Sydney. The plane was fitted with a newer entertainment system which had video on demand. The only problem was that it shit the bed about 4 hours into the flight. I did manage to watch the 2nd Pirates movie which was quite enjoyable. My US domestic flights connected through my most favorite airport – Chicago. When we landed it was actually snowing outside so I knew I was going to be delayed. Thankfully it was only for about 2 hours. I am lucky I was not on the later flight as United and American both canceled their later Chicago to Harrisburg flights. I was very happy to see my bags arrive as they were tagged all the way through in Sydney.

The very next day I got my annual physical and then Mark and I commenced the drive down to North Carolina for a week long towed array job. The job went well with us finishing slightly ahead of schedule and within our allotted hours. One thing that happened on the job which will probably never happen to me again is that military osprey planes were training and were landing on the area we were trying to survey. It is not every day you cannot finish your lines due to a fancy helicopter being in your way.

I have spent a few days this week helping the processing team finalise the data processing but today I was “lucky” enough to escape the office. I was tasked to help Rick build a weir/flume. To do this, we spent several hours wading around in a stream and hauling sandbags/rocks. I have to say the stream was cold (more like fuckin freezing!) but it was an experience. I am heading back down to the site on Monday to build a second weir.

Tomorrow (Friday) the Geophysics division is moving to our temporary office at 555 East Chocolate Avenue. We will be there for around 9 months while the extension to the main building is constructed.

This Sunday is the superbowl. At this stage it looks like I will be heading off to a friends place to have a few beers and watch the game. Hopefully it will be better than last years (Everyone say “Interception!”).

I almost forgot to mention (well I did forget but yay for the edit function) that I got a FREE copy of Windows Vista Business in the mail when I was in North Carolina. Thanks Microsoft and the Power Together promo :D :D

I believe that is about it for now. When I get up in the morning I am expecting to see a bit of snow (hopefully). I bought myself a $10 digital inside/outside thermometer and it is currently -1 degrees C outside… If it is this cold, we deserve snow otherwise it can warm up damn it!

Cheerio
