Back in Hershey (for now)

Filed under: General, Work — Chris Parker @ 04:30

Well I am back in Hershey and it seems like I have bought some stereotypical Seattle rainy weather with me. My luck with air travel over the last few weeks has gone down the toilet. When coming back from Colorado in late march, Jeff and I got stuck in Chicago (I really don’t like flying through Chicago) for around 18 hours. We were put up in a Hotel by United but the crap we had to go through to get rebooked and accomodated was an absolute pain!

On Friday, when coming back from Seattle, I was flying Delta connecting through Atlanta. We arrived into Atlanta a little late due to not having the tail winds pushing us along. I was all ready to sprint between my gates but after checking the Departure Schedule, it was no longer nessesary. Our flight was scheduled to leave at 9:59pm but due to wild weather here in the US, many airlines in many airports had delayed flights. Delta were very good about everything. They kept us posted and expained how our flight was delayed and where our plane was. They handed out blankets, snacks and drinks to everyone. We finally left Atlanta at 2am, arriving into Hershey a bit before 4am.

The schedule has firmed up a bit more and it looks like I am going to Lowry for a few weeks while the job starts. I am going to be doing the Onsite Geo role for the initial part of the project, overseeing the single coil operations. Brian will be swapping out with me after the two week period which is when the towed array portion of the project will recommence.

It has been drawn to my attention (you know who you are), that I have not put up the piccies of my Apartment! I plan to take some today once I have cleaned up. I also plan to post my Seattle pictures so keep an eye on the Gallery.

Seattle

Spam spam spam! Hello from Seattle Washington!

I have been in Seattle for a bit over 5 days now and it has been a good trip! I have been here for the SAGEEP conference. It is a really small world – At the conference I ran into some Aussies, one which went to UTAS and helped tutor one of my 2nd year classes. So with the Aussies standing stong, we have drunk, eaten and had a good time over the duration of the conference.

Seattle is a pretty nice place. I have had some of the nicest meals I have had for a long time down town. I saw the tower but I did not go up.

Today there was a field trip to Mt Saint Helens. It was pretty amazing to see the mountain. I took a bunch of pictures and I will post them when I am back on broadband.

I have a heap more to say so I will be bloggin again over the w/e. Cu!
